The top table illustrates a 28 year cycle. The initial ‘A’ equates to 1905. Add 28 and the first ‘A’ corresponds to 1933, 1961, 1989, 2017, 2045, 2073 etc. Deduct 28 to get earlier cycles. For instance, 1969 will be ‘D’ (1961 (‘A’) plus 9). That letter corresponds to the table below which gives the letters for individual months of the year in question, January to December, according to one of the lettered monthly calendars at the bottom of the page.
